The NEW Meals on Two Wheels Bike Delivery Program needs volunteers!
We are proud to announce the launch of our bike delivery program: Meals on Two Wheels! We are looking for bike enthusiasts who are interested in delivering meals to clients by bike. We have a handful of “bike friendly” routes, that will allow our volunteers to deliver the meals in a timely fashion. Meals on Wheels will provide a bike trailer and coolers to all riders to transport the meals. Riders will use their own bike and wearing a helmet is required! Riders will be assigned to a week day depending on the availability of routes. Time commitment is from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.
Regular Drivers
As a driver you get to take hot meals to clients who are primarily homebound or unable to prepare nutritious meals. All of them enjoy a smiling face and look forward to seeing a volunteer driver for some friendly conversation. Volunteers use their own car and gas. Regular drivers are assigned the same route every week and have to opportunity to get to know the clients. Directions are provided. We ask that our volunteers arrive at the hospital between 11 and 11:30a.m. Actual meal delivery take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the size of the route. Businesses and organizations see our “Adopt a Route.”
On-Call Drivers
An On-Call driver is a sub driver assigned to a specific day. They will be assigned to the first open route due to regular driver cancellations. Since we usually have one or two cancellations every day, the On-Call Driver assumes every week that they will be needed. If we do not have a route for the on-call driver we will notify them in advance. An On-Call Driver will get a variety of routes rather than the same route each week because they will be filling in for a regular driver. We ask that our volunteers arrive at the hospital between 11 and 11:30a.m. Actual meal delivery take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the size of the route.
Office Volunteers
The office staff positions include answering phones, filing, and general office duties. It is a very important position. As an office volunteer you are the first point of contact for our clients and our volunteer drivers. Typically, our office volunteers work from 10:30-12:30 to help out during the high phone volume. Other shifts are available on an as need basis.
Cart Coordinators
A Cart Coordinator is someone that matches the list of clients with the meals prepared to ensure accuracy. This person also hands out special diet types to the drivers to avoid meal mix ups. Cart Coordinators arrive at Poudre Valley Hospital around 10:40a.m. and are usually finished around 11:40. Sometimes Cart Coordinators are needed to take a last minute route if available.
Substitutes
We are always in need of substitutes for all areas to be available when our regular volunteers are not.
Special Projects
We also have volunteer groups who help create special items to deliver to clients on holidays and other times throughout the year such as handmade cards, placemats, flower vases, etc. If you or your group is interested in doing a special project please contact us with your idea or suggestion.
Fundraising
Fundraisers help us raise much needed revenue to support our program and provide client subsidies. If you are interested in helping plan a fundraiser or have a great idea for an event we would love to hear from you!
